High bp results either when the output of the blood pumped by the heart increases, or when there is an increased resistance to the flow of blood through the arteries, or both. In terms of numbers, a resting blood-pressure of 140/90 or greater in an adult is usually considered to be high. Bp level vary to different people, age and sex. Normal bp levels are lower in children and rise with age. |
